2008 AGM

Hello all,
The Lacrosse Tasmania Annual General Meeting is coming up in a few weeks. We are required by law to have these at the end of ever y year. The purpose of the meeting is to elect a committee whose purpose is to run the organisation over the course of the following year. Our committee is formed of both committee members and board members. Board members undertake compulsory roles, and committee members take organisation specific duties.

The Lacrosse Tasmania board has been fairly static over the last few years, due primarily to a lack of interest from its benefactors (ie players.) I twice have had to juggle university studies, family and two jobs whilst still devoting some time to lacrosse, and there are similar stories for other past and present board members.

People over the course of their lives move in and out of various circles of work, friends, and interest-groups- this is a natural process. The reasons behind this vary from person to person. At least one senior position will not be up for re-election, and as such will need to be filled by a new committee member.

To help for our organisation be able to work into this coming year, I would like to extend an open invitation to all players, their friends and family to attend the AGM and to nominate themselves or each other for positions mentioned below.
To demonstrate the level of commitment, these are the following roles that we need to function. All the below roles are being carried out by about 7 members.

Positions that need filling by law:
• President
• Vice President
o We split the vice president role into two, one for overseeing men’s competitions and one for overseeing women’s competitions.
• Treasurer
• Secretary
• Public Officer

Positions that help in day to day running:
• Director of Rosters and Results
• Director of Media and Promotion
• Director of Coaching
• Director of Officiating
• Director of Development
• Director of Fundraising
• Director of Equipment

It may sound clichéd, but we really do need your help in progressing lacrosse in Tasmania. Without new people with new ideas and ambitions, our organisation will stagnate, and enthusiasm will be lost. Lacrosse as we know it will eventually cease to be in Tasmania.

So if you enjoy your Sunday evenings, playing one of your favoured sports with friends, please consider taking up a position on our committee. The commitment is only a fraction of your time every week, and little more than an hour, every month when we officially meet.

Simon D’Alton
President Tasmania Lacrosse
